What is a Standard Drink?

This graphic shows an illustration of a beer can, a glass of malt liquor, a glass of wine, and a cocktail glass of hard liquor side by side, comparing and contrasting how much liquid constitutes a "standard" drink for each. Above the drinks are the size of each liquid and below is the percentage of alcohol. Fro 12 fluid ounces of regular beer there is about 5% alcohol. For 8 to 9 fluid ounces of malt liquor there is about 7% alcohol. For 5 fluid ounces of table wine there is about 12% alcohol. For a 1.5 fluid ounce shot of distilled spirit there is about 40% alcohol.
